Bread for our Journey of Faith

    by C. P. S.

We are not left alone to puzzle our way through life.

The Bread of God's Word, the essential sustenance and guidance

for our daily life, is there to break open.

All that is true about God and ourselves and our world

is there, accessible, to change and transform us.

When will we be really hungry for this Bread?

When will we have time to listen?

When will we be trusting enough

to let it make a vital difference?

And we are not only offered the Bread of his Word

    for good times and bad,

    but also the Sacramental Bread,

so that we might know how to approach

and make response to God's Living Word.

When the Bread of God's word is received and acted upon,

when the Sacramental Bread, that deposits grace

into the very centre of ourselves, truly takes effect,

then we are more aware and responsive

to a kind word here, a prayer there, or a reaching out in forgiveness

where Christ's healing peace had not been welcomed.

When we break open both the Bread of God's Word

and the Bread of Christ's Body,

then the Body of Christ can be truly shared,

so that both ourselves and those we encounter

will know how to face the future as indeed a journey of Faith,

with all the Saints cheering us on our way.

God's Bread for our journey is always

through the saving cross to resurrection glory.

Ash on our heads, gold beneath our feet,

    palms in our hands,

through Christ's wounds made glorious now embracing us,

if only we will let him was our feet

so that we will have the courage and humility

to wash the feet that need it most.
