What we believe ...
We affirm traditional Christian teaching on life and behaviour. We are committed to the sacredness of life, the holiness of marriage, and to an approach to human sexuality consistent with the teaching of the Lord and his apostles as passed down in Scripture and the tradition of the Church.
We believe that men and women are equal in Christ, but have different roles and responsibilities. We stand by the teaching of the universal and undivided Church on the Sacraments and the threefold ministry in historic succession. We are, therefore, unable in conscience to accept the ordination of women to the priesthood and the episcopate.
We work and pray for the reunion of all Christians on the basis of the Catholic faith of the undivided Church as received from Christ through the apostles, based on Scripture as the Word of God for all times.
We join with all men and women of good will in striving for a just and harmonious society, and the right stewardship of God's creation.
We confess Jesus Christ as the one and only Saviour and Lord.
We proclaim Him as the Good News for all people.
About us ...
Credo Cymru was founded in July 1993 following the creation of a Bill, by the Governing Body of the Church in Wales, to allow women to become ordained as priests in that Anglican Province.
Although being distinctly separate organisations, Credo Cymru has formal links with Forward in Faith, (including consent to use the Forward in Faith Wales appellation) which affords mutual support in several important areas.
We uphold: the faith handed down from Christ by the apostles : the faith of Saint David and all the saints of Wales : the faith of the historic mainstream of Anglican Christians.
Be Joyful and keep the faith!
The motto of Credo Cymru has become:
"Be joyful and keep the faith!"
This comes from last words traditionally spoken by Saint David to his monks: "Be joyful and keep the faith. Do those little things you have seen and heard from me."
The Credo Cymru prayer:
Lord, we beseech thee, let thy continual pity cleanse thy Church: and, because it cannot continue in safety without thy succour, preserve it evermore by thy help and goodness: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for St David's Day:
God our Father, you gave the bishop David to the Welsh Church to uphold the faith and to be an example of Christian perfection. In this changing world may he help us to hold fast to the values which bring eternal life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
To advance the Christian religion by promoting the spread of the catholic and apostolic faith as received by the Church in Wales.
To continue to work for proper provision for traditional clergy and laity following the appointment, in November 2016, of the first woman to be an Ordinary in the Church in Wales.
To assist our parishes in becoming centres of excellence in their worship and spirituality.
To support other groups who share in the same aims, including the organising of study days, retreats and conferences.
